Person Centered Therapy by Carl Rogers

The person centered therapy is more focus on the client rather than the problem. The therapist let the client to analyze his problem for him to solve his own problem.
GOALS OF THE THERAPY
The goal of the therapy is not to solve the problems but to assist the individual to grow so that he can cope with the present and future problem that will come on his way.
FUNCTION OF THE THERAPY
The major task of the therapist is to provide a climate of safety and trust which will encourage the clients to reintegrate their self actualizing and self-valuing process. Also the role of the therapist is to listen to the client without making any judgment, without giving any advice and simply help the client to feel accepted and understand their own feelings.
THREE BASIC CONDITIONS FOR THERAPEUTIC EFFECTIVENESS
There are three basic conditions for therapeutic effectiveness and these are: empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard.

  • EMPATHY- The state of accurately understanding the client's world from the client's perspective.
  • CONGRUENCE- A healthy state of unison between one's total organismic experience and a self-concept that is free of conditions of worth.                                                                                                                                                                          Therapist's openness and genuineness--the willingness to relate to clients without hiding behind a professional facade.
  • UNCONDITIONAL POSITIVE REGARD- The therapist accepts the client totally for who he/she without evaluating or censoring and without disapproving of particular feelings, actions or characteristics

If they fail to accomplish the 3 basic conditions the therapeutic process will not be effective anymore.
